Puran Khadka

Puran Khadka was born on the 13th of May 1956 A.D. in Ganjra V.D.C. – 4, Achham, Nepal. He did his graduation in Fine Arts from J. J. School of Art, 1980 A.D., Mumbai, India. Throughout his career, he held six solo exhibitions and participated in numerous national and international art showcases, earning widespread recognition. His contributions to Nepalese contemporary art were acknowledged with two Western Regional Awards from the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts in 2008, 2010 and 2012 AD.
Puran Khadka was a true abstract painter, both in concept and execution. While many of his peers used abstract styles to show social themes, people, or landscapes, Khadka’s work focused on deeper ideas about existence and consciousness. His art explored the intangible, trying to capture a state where the mind quiets and pure awareness take over. His art explored things that can’t be seen or touched, aiming to capture a state where the mind stops thinking and pure awareness comes through. And his application and depiction of forms are also abstract. The artist believed that in order to understand the intricacies of life, one has to go through and beyond the intellect and understand the no mind state of being. He concludes that in this state lies an absolute experience of life and the existence in its purest grandeur.
He passed away in 2016. His final work, “The Wholeness”, reflected his lifelong goal of showing how everything is interconnected. Even after his death in 2016, his art still inspires people and encourages them to think more deeply about life and consciousness.
